Exercise and your Swissy

DO NOT FORCE EXERCISE YOUR PUPPY!! (e.g. jogging) Let your puppy play at his own speed. Swissies are fast growing and heavy boned and are not fully mature until they are two (bitches) and three years old (dogs), You might encourage growth related problems by over-exercising your dog when h is young! Make sure he stays fit, but at his own speed! The only exercise a puppy needs is normal playing.
Excessive stair climbing (on uncovered surfaces), playing or running on hard, slippery surfaces, jumping up onto or down off of cars, trucks or any surface over two feet high can aggravate shoulders, elbows and hips while they are developing and potentially contribute to crippling problems such as OCD, hip and elbow dysplasia.
Although you can start acquainting your puppy with a harness and a light training cart when he is around one year, do not ask him to pull more than 25 lbs of weight until he reaches maturity at between two and three years of age.
